FFL & Transfers

Dawson Defense is a federally licensed firearms dealer. We follow all ATF regulations governing the sale and transfer of firearms.

Federal Firearms License
9-86-025-01-6F-17313

Issued to Dawson Defense LLC, Arizona. You can verify any active FFL by license number through the ATF's FFL eZ Check portal.

How firearm purchases work

Federal law requires that firearms ship from one FFL to another. You cannot have a firearm shipped directly to your home. The process at Dawson Defense is straightforward:

  1. 01

Choose your firearm and complete checkout

During checkout you provide the name and address of the local FFL dealer who will receive the firearm on your behalf.
  2. 02

    We coordinate the transfer

Dawson Defense contacts your receiving FFL, confirms their license is current, and ships the firearm directly to them.
  3. 03

You complete the transfer at your local FFL

When the firearm arrives, your local FFL contacts you to come in, fill out ATF Form 4473, and complete the NICS background check. Once approved, the firearm is yours.

Receiving FFL requirements

We'll need a copy of your receiving dealer's current, signed FFL on file before we can ship. Most FFLs already have their license uploaded with us or with our supplier network. If they don't, we'll request it directly from them — you generally don't need to do anything.

Transfer fees charged by the receiving FFL are set by that dealer and paid directly to them. They're separate from the price you pay Dawson Defense.

Age & eligibility

All firearm and ammunition purchases are subject to federal, state, and local law:

  • Long gun & long-gun ammunition: 18+
  • Handgun & handgun ammunition: 21+
  • The receiving FFL is responsible for verifying age, running the NICS background check, and ensuring you're eligible to take possession.

State restrictions

Some firearms, magazines, and accessories are restricted in certain states (e.g. CA, NY, NJ, MA). It is your responsibility to ensure the items you order are legal in your state of residence. If a product is shipped to a state where it is non-compliant, the receiving FFL will refuse the transfer and the order will be returned at your expense.

Compliance commitments

  • We follow all applicable ATF, federal, state, and local firearms regulations.
  • We only ship firearms to verified, currently-licensed FFLs.
  • We do not sell to anyone prohibited from owning firearms under federal or state law.
  • We cooperate fully with all ATF inspections and audits.
