We want you to be satisfied with your purchase. Here's how returns work at Dawson Defense.
Return window
Most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery, in original condition, unused and in original packaging. To start a return, email support@dawson-defense.com with your order number and reason for return. We'll issue an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) and provide return instructions.
Returns sent without an RMA cannot be processed. Always wait for return authorization before shipping anything back.
Restocking fee
A 15% restocking fee applies to all approved returns. This covers the cost charged by our supplier when items re-enter their inventory system. The restocking fee is deducted from your refund.
Original shipping is non-refundable. Return shipping is the customer's responsibility unless the return is due to our error or a confirmed defect.
Items we cannot accept for return
- Firearms after transfer. Once you've completed the ATF Form 4473 and taken possession at your FFL, the firearm is yours — federal law prohibits us from accepting a return after transfer. If you're unhappy with the firearm, you can sell it through your local FFL on consignment.
- Ammunition that has been fired or opened. Sealed factory ammunition in original packaging may be returned; opened, partial, or fired ammunition cannot.
- Hazmat / pyrotechnic items (smokeless powder, primers, etc.) — carrier rules prohibit return shipment.
- Items damaged by the customer after delivery.
- Personal-use items: holsters that have been worn, mouthpieces, ear-tip foam, and similar.
- Final-sale or clearance items, where labeled.
Defective or damaged items
If your item arrives damaged or defective, contact us within 5 business days of delivery with photos of the damage and the packaging. We'll work with you to resolve it — options typically include a free replacement, repair, or full refund (no restocking fee on confirmed defects).
Reports made after the 5-business-day window may be limited by the carrier's damage-claim policy.
Refund timing
Once we receive and inspect your return, we'll process your refund to the original payment method. Refunds typically appear in your account within 5–10 business days depending on your bank.
Exchanges
For exchanges (different size, color, or model), we typically have you place a new order for the desired item and return the original for refund. This avoids inventory holds and gets the right item to you faster.
