The APX was Beretta's entry into the modern striker-fired duty pistol market and the A1 update refined it further, but either way the magazine is where reliability lives — worn springs and damaged feed lips cause more stoppages in semi-automatic pistols than any other single factor.

Using genuine Beretta magazines means correct spring rate, correct follower geometry and correct feed lip dimensions, none of which aftermarket copies reliably match. Spare magazines are also simply practical: more time shooting, less time reloading at the bench.
