The Savage 64 is an inexpensive semi-automatic .22 that has introduced an enormous number of people to shooting, and it does exactly what a first rifle should: cycles reliably with decent ammunition, weighs little, and costs little enough that nobody worries about scratching the stock. The 21-inch barrel gives good sight radius and wrings out what velocity .22 LR has to offer, and the receiver is grooved for scope mounts if you want to add glass. This version wears an American flag graphic stock. A practical plinker, small-game gun and trainer that earns its place in a safe.
