The Axis II adds Savage's user-adjustable AccuTrigger to the Axis platform, which is the single upgrade that most changes how well the rifle shoots. This one is chambered in .25-06 Remington with a 22-inch barrel and a gray stock. The .25-06 is an underappreciated cartridge: it drives light quarter-bore bullets very fast and flat, making it an excellent antelope, mule deer and long-range varmint round with modest recoil.

A free-floating barrel, a button-rifled bore and a detachable box magazine round out a rifle that shoots well above its class.
