The Savage Axis II XP in .308 Winchester is a scoped, ready-to-hunt package built for left-handed shooters, and this version dresses the rifle in a wood stock rather than synthetic. It ships with a Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 scope mounted and bore-sighted, so it is a box of ammunition and a short zeroing session away from the deer woods. The Axis II adds Savage's adjustable AccuTrigger to a button-rifled 22-inch barrel and a detachable box magazine, and the left-hand bolt puts the handle where a southpaw needs it. The .308 Win is the do-it-all deer, hog and black bear cartridge, with mild recoil and ammunition on every shelf. A lot of rifle for a first-time or budget-minded hunter.
