Savage's Impulse brought the straight-pull bolt action, long popular in Europe, into American production. Its Hexlock system uses six ball bearings that cam into the barrel extension when the bolt is pushed home, so there is no bolt lift at all. The result is a genuinely faster follow-up shot, with the shooter staying behind the scope through the cycle.

This Mountain Hunter is chambered in 7mm PRC with a 22-inch barrel, pairing a modern, efficient long-range magnum with a rifle built light enough to carry into steep country.
