There is something deeply satisfying about a single-shot .45-70. The cartridge dates to 1873 and still hits with authority that modern rounds struggle to match at close range, and the break-action Traditions Outfitter G3 gives it a home that is light, simple, and nearly impossible to break.

The 22-inch blued barrel keeps the whole rifle handy for timber hunting, where .45-70 does its best work on bear, hog, and heavy-bodied deer. With no magazine and no bolt, the manual of arms takes about thirty seconds to learn, which makes it an approachable rifle for a new hunter and a pleasantly honest one for an experienced shooter.
