Colt's Series 70 designation refers to the original firing pin arrangement, without the later firing-pin safety plunger that many shooters believe slightly degrades trigger feel. The Series 70 Competition takes that action and adds the features a shooter wants for range and competition work: a 5-inch national match barrel, upgraded sights, an undercut trigger guard, and a two-tone finish. Chambered in .45 ACP and built on Colt's own frame, it is the reference-standard 1911 with the upgrades already installed. All-steel construction makes the recoil impulse a push rather than a snap.
