The Franklin Armory Reformation RS11 is one of the more unusual firearms on the American market. It is built on an AR-style platform in 5.56mm with an 11.5-inch barrel, but the bore uses straight lands and grooves rather than conventional rifling, which is the basis for Franklin Armory's position that it falls outside the standard rifle and shotgun definitions.

Practically speaking, it is a compact carbine that handles like a short AR, with a black finish and standard AR controls and ergonomics. Legal classification and state-level treatment of the Reformation vary considerably, and buyers should verify the rules in their jurisdiction before ordering.
