Savage's Axis XP Compact is built for smaller-framed and younger hunters, with a shorter length of pull that lets them mount the rifle properly and see through the factory-mounted, bore-sighted scope without craning. This version is chambered in .400 Legend, Winchester's newer straight-wall cartridge that steps up from the .350 Legend with heavier bullets and more energy for deer and black bear while keeping recoil mild enough for a young shooter. It is legal in the straight-wall-only zones of the Midwest. A blued, threaded barrel, black synthetic stock and detachable magazine round out a package that can go from the box to the deer stand with very little fuss.
