The Axis 2 Pro Woodland is Savage's timber-country configuration of the Axis II, and this one pairs a 20-inch threaded barrel with the 7mm-08 Remington, a cartridge that deserves far more attention than it gets. The 7mm-08 shoots 140-grain bullets flat enough for 300-yard shots on deer and antelope, carries enough energy for elk with good bullets, and recoils gently enough for anyone to shoot well. The short barrel keeps the rifle quick in tree stands and thick woods and pairs neatly with a suppressor. Savage's AccuTrigger, a detachable box magazine and a floating bolt head that helps the Axis punch above its weight in accuracy complete the package.
