Chambered in .350 Legend, this Savage Axis 2 Compact XP is aimed squarely at hunters in straight-wall cartridge states, where the round has become one of the most popular deer options going. Recoil is mild, terminal performance on whitetail inside practical ranges is excellent, and the 18-inch barrel keeps the rifle short and quick in thick cover or a box blind. The Compact stock's shortened length of pull suits younger and smaller-statured hunters especially well.

Savage's adjustable AccuTrigger, a detachable magazine, and a weather-resistant synthetic stock round out a practical, hard-working deer rifle.
