Savage built the Axis line to deliver honest hunting accuracy without extras, and the Axis 2 Compact XP is the left-hand, short-stocked version aimed at younger hunters and anyone who wants a trimmer rifle. This one is chambered in .400 Legend, a straight-wall cartridge developed for hunters in states that restrict bottleneck rifle rounds, delivering meaningful deer-and-hog energy inside typical woods ranges.

The 20-inch barrel keeps the package handy in a blind or box stand, and the XP designation means it ships as a scoped package ready to sight in. Savage barrel quality and the user-adjustable trigger have long made the Axis a strong first centerfire rifle.
