Charter Arms has built the Bulldog since the 1970s, and it remains one of the few genuinely compact revolvers chambered in .44 Special. That cartridge is the appeal: heavy, large-diameter bullets at modest velocity and pressure, which means serious defensive performance without the blast and punishment of a magnum in a small gun.

The On Duty version wears a stainless finish on a 2.5 in. barrel. Charter's revolvers are American-made, simple and famously easy to carry, and the five-shot cylinder keeps the package small enough for a pocket or ankle rig.
