Retay has built a reputation for inertia-driven semi-auto shotguns that run clean and light, and the ACE-R Upland Ultralight is aimed squarely at the walking bird hunter. In 28 gauge with a 24-inch barrel, this is about as pleasant as an upland gun gets: quick between the hands on flushing quail and woodcock, light enough to carry all day behind a dog, and gentle enough on the shoulder that new and recoil-sensitive shooters do well with it. Retay's inertia system stays notably clean since it does not vent gas into the action.
